What does a seniors community offer?

Seniors community refers primarily to retirement communities where seniors can live out their lives among other seniors with dignity and in most instances while maintaining their independence. There are many different types of seniors? communities. They can be broken down into two broad headings:

* Residential, and
* Non-residential

A residential seniors community can be further broken down into categories depending on the living arrangements. These are:

* Assisted living communities
This type of seniors? community is for the elderly who need help with daily activities because of ill-health. In an assisted living seniors community, the resident can interact with other residents if their condition allows. They have meals together and recreational activities are normally a group event.

In this type of seniors community, the resident still maintains their independence in most things, they are just able to access help where they need it.

* Independent living
This type of seniors community is similar to the assisted living facility except that the residents are able to live independently without need for any assistance beyond the normal. An independent living seniors community can be apartments or a series of flats. Retirees like to move into these kinds of seniors communities because they are generally cheaper and easier to maintain.

* Nursing homes
This kind of seniors community is used by those who need long term care. Residents of nursing homes are generally in need of constant care and supervision.

The non-residential seniors community refers to facilities that seniors use but they do not live on site. Such seniors communities are:

* Day care centers for the elderly
* Resource centers for the elderly

A non-residential seniors community offers opportunities for interaction between people of a similar age group. Users have access to activities that help to keep their minds alert and their bodies fit. Many of these communities have libraries and computer labs for use by seniors.

The seniors community of today is very different from a couple of years ago. Previously they were generally unpleasant places where old people went to die. Thankfully, today this is no longer the case. The seniors community is more often than not, the place they call home. The only difference is that your neighbors all tend to be of a certain age.

A seniors community can be pretty similar to a five-star hotel, and if you have the financial means these are plentiful. Many upscale establishments have professional chefs, rooms that can rival those in the best hotels, and qualified staff.

Another seniors community may have a swimming pool for residents or make arrangements for weekly swimming trips for those who want to keep fit that way. Others offer classes in areas such as mosaic, pottery and book repairs.

For the senior citizen seeking a seniors community to join there are lots of options to choose from.

It is possible that people haven?t noticed, but it is more probable that the United States has recently become aware that its population is aging. Wall Street and any other agency that wants to make money, has started thinking if it can profit from the increase in the number of seniors that will be living in this country in the next ten to twenty years. Marketing personnel may be working overtime in an attempt to create unique form of community marketing for seniors.

Many strategies have been developed and many more will become familiar in the future. Web sites such as SeniorStrategicNetwork and TheSenior.com and AARP have already established sites to provide information and provide a community marketing for seniors that will appeal to a particular component of the world?s population.

Books are being written and published that explain how to attract seniors. For example, Marketing to Seniors, Second Edition is written to help others understand how seniors think and how they can attract the senior eye in terms of marketing. The target market is, of course, seniors and those that wish to understand more how they can directly address their needs. Community marketing to seniors is not something that retailers can avoid any longer.

In developing a plan for community marketing for seniors, authors have to remind companies that marketing to seniors is going to be different than the way a company markets to any other demographic. Seniors will tend to have a different kind of disposable income. Seniors will also have needs that other demographics will not have. Some of the more obvious needs will be health related.

Even though the about-to-be retirees many be healthier than most seniors to date, they will still encounter medical issues. Many of these issues may be the continuation of former health problems, but many of the health issues will be relatively new. Much of the future community marketing for seniors will need to consider such issues.

Future community marketing for seniors can not ignore the Internet. Many seniors have worked with computers and learned the value of them for work and for leisure. Seniors will not abandon their computers, simply because they retire. Any online community marketing for seniors will have to consider the values, the wants and the needs of this unique demographic.

Few commodities can not consider seniors. Even children?s items will need to consider the senior market. Seniors will want to purchase items for grandchildren. They will be able to buy items than some parents won?t be able to afford. The seniors, however, won?t approach a purchase in the same way the parent might. Seniors, since they generally will have more leisure time, will be able to search and compare quality and price.

Senior dating tips

The need for romance and love does not diminish with age. For many older people dating can be a scary experience, however, following some basic guidelines can make senior dating fun and safe. Seniors usually attempt to get back into the dating game after the death of a spouse or simply out of the desire for companionship. The main senior friend finder problems they tend to encounter are:

* Health related issues
* Disapproval from children and grandchildren
* Not knowing where to find persons to date
* Fear of the unknown

However, all of these obstacles can be overcome with a little knowledge and understanding.

Health related issues

With aging comes many health issues which can make dating difficult for seniors. However, senior dating doesn?t have to be hampered unduly by these facts of life. If you suffer pains and discomfort from age-related conditions such as arthritis, your doctor can help by prescribing pain medication and therapy.

If you or the senior friend finder person you are interested in have mobility problems that does not have to be a major issue either. Many restaurants and other public places are now equipped with disabled access.

Family objections

Unfortunately, many younger persons have the misconception that seniors do not need to date if their spouse has died and as such disapprove of senior dating. This is not true as everyone, regardless of age, has the desire for companionship and intimacy. Overcoming the disapproval of family members may take time, however, before they can accept what is happening. Once the senior in question is still mentally alert there is little need for interference if they are dating or using a senior friend finder service.

Where to find partners?

This is generally the greatest obstacle in the senior dating arena. Many older persons are unsure how to get back into the dating world. Many turn to online match making sites such as senior friend finder sites for help, but this while helpful is also poses potential dangers, and should be approached carefully.

There are a number of others ways for seniors to find dating partners:

* Church: senior dating is sometimes made possible by churches where people meet on senior friend finder singles nights or during senior citizens activities and socials
* There are many centers for seniors where single persons can meet and get to know each other. These centers provide the place and in some instances the opportunity for senior dating with events such as bingo and chess nights
* Friends are also another source of dating opportunities for seniors. Most seniors will have friends who can arrange blind dates for them with suitable partners.

Senior dating is not only fun, but can also be healthy as companionship has been proven to be beneficial to the mental, emotional and physical health of the elderly. With an increasing baby boomer population, and better health due to advances in medical care, senior dating is becoming an increasing activity.

The options listed above are also great as a senior friend finder tool if all you want is to find and build friendships without romance. In addition there are many online groups that work as friend finder facilities for seniors.

Health insurance for seniors: Are there options?

Health insurance is especially important to seniors because it is a natural fact of life that as we age our health deteriorates. Medicine and medical care can and does become rather expensive. Health insurance for seniors with fixed incomes can become a major problem. Sadly, there are millions of aged Americans without any form of health insurance. However, there are a number of options that can help seniors get fairly good health insurance. First of all, there are many agencies that exist to help the elderly or their caregivers get the information they need to make informed decisions about health insurance for seniors. One such program is the Seniors? Health Insurance Information Program (SHIP) established in North Carolina in 1989.

AARP is a popular health insurance for seniors. It is available for any adult fifty and over. The benefits offered vary and it is necessary to read the fine print to get the maximum benefits. AARP offers a number of health insurance options for seniors, namely:

* Supplemental health insurance (basic and enhanced plans)
* Dental care health insurance
With this plan, you can keep your own dentist, and best of all, your entire family is covered.
* Long term care insurance
* Medicare Supplemental insurance

Medicare is a federal health insurance plan that offers health insurance for seniors through the Department of Health and Human Services. Members have to be aged sixty-five or older to qualify unless they are disabled. Seniors with disabilities can become members at age fifty-five. There are two main parts to this plan, Part A for hospitalization and Part B for non-hospitalization services such as doctor?s visits. Apart from prescription drugs, Medicare also covers screening for certain preventative illnesses. Medicare began a new program in January 2006 which will help make it easier for members to pay for the medication they need under the Medicare Prescription Drug Plan. To benefit under this plan, seniors will need to register.

Medigap, also known as Medicare Supplement Insurance, is a health insurance for seniors sold by private insurance companies. This plan helps to deal with areas not covered, hence the name Medigap, such as, copayments and deductibles. Seniors must pay a monthly premium to the issuing insurance company.

Medicaid, a state administered program is specially formulated for low income individuals including seniors.

In addition to those health insurance options for seniors mentioned above, there are lots more offered by private companies. It may be necessary to combine different types of health insurance for seniors to ensure that all your health insurance needs are met. As with all insurance, it is necessary to have a knowledgeable person go over the fine print before you commit to buying.

Meeting that someone special at any age is often a challenge. But especially in later years, finding soul mate can be even tougher due to more limited socialization, not knowing where to start, and dealing with an often fixed income. Fortunately it doesn?t have to be that way anymore. More and more dating services are helping with the problem by providing free senior dating services. These services can make it easier to explore the murky waters of dating again.

There is no need to be resigned to the idea of living the rest of your life alone. Many senior citizens find themselves without a companion or spouse in their later years. Free senior dating services help to bring people in similar circumstances together. There are usually profiles of members you can read through and contact a person who strikes you as interesting. In the meantime, other single seniors will be reading your profile and contacting you as well. The profiles help to eliminate a lot of the guesswork involved in meeting someone new. You already know what their hobbies and interests are and can choose to contact individuals with compatible life styles. These useful services do away with the uncomfortable set ups relatives make and the nerve-racking idea of trying to meet someone in a bar or just by luck of the draw.

Finding free senior dating services is really as simple as a walk in the park. They can be found in local newspapers. This method would ensure that the person you may be interested in is in your local area. Television ads, magazines, and other printed sources often contain personal ads as well. By far the fastest and easiest way to find free senior dating services is on the Internet. These helpful websites have pages that allow the user to create a profile and search their database of people. Most of the time you decide what region, interests, and age you want to look for. The website does the rest by supplying you with a list of exciting members who fit the criteria you entered. The whole process really couldn?t be simpler and all you have to lose is time and stand to gain a pleasant new friend or love.

Free senior dating services are exactly what the single senior needs to begin to enrich their lives. You have nothing to lose, as the services are free. Find one you are comfortable with, read some profiles, and pick the partner of your dreams. It?s that simple and you will be glad you did.

After months of trying to decide if you were ready to date, then weeks of contacting different potential dates, you have finally decided to make a date. Good job! Now the nerves set in and you aren?t sure what makes a great date anymore. Since you are a senior dating in New York, the possibilities are endless. The elements that make a good date are pretty much the same for any age group, but just in case, here are some ideas that may just what you were looking for.

For a more casual senior dating in New York nothing can compare with a romantic picnic for two. Pick your favorite secluded park for the encounter. Just remember to bring the wine, delicious gourmet food, and a soft blanket to sit on. Without any distractions, the two of you will have a lovely time getting to know each other. After all, that?s what first dates are for.

Since the two of you are lucky enough to be from a generation that thinks it is perfectly acceptable for men to dance (lucky you!), another first date idea could be an evening of dancing. Most ballrooms have lessons before the real dancing begins and this is an excellent opportunity to laugh at each other?s antics and get close. The senior dating in New York should be able to find a great number of venues that cater to the dancing clientele.

Many people of all ages enjoy art. Check in the newspaper or online for the latest art museum exhibit or art shows in the area. Most people have very defined ideas about art and you can guarantee the conversation will flow as you discuss your favorites. Talk about your favorite artists or works. Maybe one of you is an aspiring artist yourself. This is one arena that is purely determined by opinion. What a great way to find out what your date really thinks. Senior dating in New York just got a lot easier.

An absolutely romantic idea for a senior dating in New York is the option of attending a wine tasting or visiting a local vineyard. It doesn?t matter if you are knowledgeable about wine or not. It would be an excellent opportunity to learn more about wine and imagine the fun you will have exploring the different versions and the two of you deciding which ones you like and which ones you don?t.

As in any aspect of dating, the important part is to have a good time, enjoy the company, and explore the possibility of a second date. That?s all any of us go on a first date for.

It is a well-known fact that an individual's body will deteriorate as he or she gets older. The stresses and strains of life eventually catch up with everyone and wear and tear takes its toll. Therefore, it is important to get the balance of comfort and support right when you embark on and travel through life as a senior. Your furniture, from your favourite armchair to your bed, must match your needs and requirements in order for you to feel the benefits. Your bed is the most crucial piece of furniture you own as far as support is concerned, purely and simply because you spend more time in or on it than you do any other piece of furniture in your house. You should also bear in mind that your body relaxes into your bed every night because you have no control of it when you are asleep. If it does not support you correctly then it can actually leave you with more aches and pains than you had to begin with.

Everybody knows that a bed is made up of two components – the mattress and the base. In order to provide you with the support your body needs, the two must work in complete harmony. Believe it or not, this effect is more difficult to achieve than it sounds. If the base is supportive, the mattress may be too soft. If the mattress is of just the right firmness than it is likely that your base will let it down by not supporting it enough to distribute your weight effectively. These are all factors to bear in mind when you are assessing whether your bed is actually good enough to cater for all of your needs.

The most common ailments that a bed has to contend with are arthritis and bad backs. Both are caused by the strain put on the joints over an extended period of time. Both can also be extremely painful but the right bed can alleviate the pain because it effectively distributes your weight evenly, thus meaning that your body is not experiencing more weight in certain places than others. Too often your back will take the brunt of any uneven weight distribution, and this can result in a worsening of your condition. Anyone who has ever experienced back pain will know what it is like to wake up in more pain than you had the previous night and will also advise you to avoid it at any cost!

If you have ever been bed shopping then I am sure that you will know that you can buy any type of mattress under the sun as far as firmness is concerned. However, a mattress that is too firm will leave your uncomfortable, even if it does help to ease the strain on joints. A mattress that is too soft, on the other hand, will make you extremely comfortable but will leave you feeling like a truck has hit you in your sleep. This type of mattress can also do more harm than good and so are best avoided. You must purchase a mattress that is perfectly placed in the middle of the firm/soft equation to feel the benefit. This way, you will be able to make the most of the comfort and support. As for knowing when to change it, as soon as you begin to experience a dip in the middle of the mattress or can feel a spring go when you move it is time to go bed shopping!

The base of a bed is of equal importance. However, it may be more difficult when it comes to choosing a base. At least most furniture stores display firmness scales when you visit, thus making it easier to choose a mattress. They have no such scale for bases. You are pretty much left to make your own choice for better or worse. However, seniors should generally choose a divan bed – the kind of bed that has no frame and just looks like two boxes pushed together. Metal and wooden frames can bend and break. They also have no middle and so do not allow for even weight distribution. Divan beds fully support the weight of both you and the mattress, thus easing aches and pains in the long term.

Now you are fully equipped to choose the best bed for you. Remember, always go for both support and comfort!

There are two common misconceptions about dating that society has held for so many years that they have virtually merged into unwritten rules. The first is that dating is for the younger generations only, and the second is that seniors are not only too old for it but they are past it. Seniors have an unjustified reputation for being set in their ways and thus it is frowned upon for them to accept somebody new into their lives, let alone into their beds! However, the Internet and more liberal attitudes are starting to change the perspective of society as a whole. There is a long way to go until the world of senior dating is fully accepted but everyone should have the choice. The question is, to date or not to date?

Seniors are renowned for having friendships with the opposite sex rather than actual relationships and, even though the former often merges into the latter, are always termed that way. Individuals into their fifties often date, but beyond that it is frowned upon for a variety of reasons. If a senior has been widowed, it may be a result of their existing family.

Sons and daughters, even though they are grown up and have lives and children of their own, often make dating difficult for individual seniors. The attitude that they take is that nobody can replace their mother or father and that no individual should actually step into their parent's shoes. That applies to any potential suitor, regardless of how happy they may make the parent left behind. Children of any age are notoriously unforgiving if their parents should move on after a split or death, but the fact remains that it is your life to do as you please. Another issue may be greed, although most seniors refuse point blank to think of it in those terms. Children and grandchildren would view seniors' dates as someone trying to get their hands on their rightful inheritance. Unfortunately, there have been many stories of conmen that have added credibility to this perspective, but that is not so in the majority of cases and everyone should be given the benefit of the doubt. However, it is up to individual seniors to make their minds up as to whether they can effectively ignore these arguments and date.

If seniors do decide that the time is right for them to move on and have someone, they have plenty of options as far as dating is concerned in this day and age. Simply joining senior groups will introduce you to likeminded people that you could form a relationship with. The key to an enduring and healthy relationship is a solid foundation built upon common interests. If you can talk to someone for hours, even if it is on the one subject, then you can translate that into a relationship. Dating as a senior is all about finding a companion to enjoy the rest of your days with after all.

Having said that, some seniors don't actually settle for the one companion. They choose to date several men or women, depending on gender and sexual orientation, so that they have several relationships that can form a support network. This is especially common if they have been committed to one person for many years and feel that nobody else would offer the same security or sense of satisfaction that they had previously had. The people that they choose to have relationships with, therefore, are there to fulfil a specific individual role that a previous partner had fulfilled on his or her own.

Dating as a senior is not all about sex and should never be thought of in that way. The majority of seniors that do date choose to do so to find a companion and fill a void in their lives. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this. It is a personal choice that should be respected, just as we respect the rights of younger individuals that choose to date. It should not be all about anyone but the senior in question. If he or she chooses to date, regardless of what other people think, then good luck to them!

Anyone who has ever been a part of the dating world, and that would be most of us, knows that there are all kinds of different people from different walks of life out there. The old saying may be that ?opposites attract?, but most people would prefer to meet and build a relationship with someone who is, at least, similar to them in their beliefs and values. This is true of the Christian dating senior as well. It is fortunate that single seniors of the Christian faith can find help meeting someone who shares their religious beliefs.

The benefits to the Christian dating senior are enormous when they use the tolerance and love that has been finely honed from years of being in touch with their church. Christian single seniors have come to a point in their lives where they have lost their spouse and are ready to find and share their journey with a new, suitable partner. Another advantage is that the Christian dating senior more than likely has reached a point in their faith that allows them the freedom of meeting a new relationship with honesty, integrity, and an eagerness to explore their belief in God with another Christian. Family and friends, not to mention the new couple, will find their lives enriched by the joining of two mature, Christian seniors.

Finding this kind of loving relationship in a person?s golden years doesn?t have to be difficult. There are many resources available to the Christian dating senior. One of the first places to look for organizations designed to help with search is the senior?s church. Many religious organizations have groups and clubs set up specifically meant for senior citizens. Even if they are not dating groups particularly, they still open the door to meeting new Christian friends of both genders. The Christian dating senior can also ask friends and family for suggestions of appropriate potential dates. These people know the dating senior well and can make well thought out recommendations. Of course the Internet is an invaluable tool in meeting someone special. Choosing a search engine and typing in a phrase such as ?Christian senior singles? will yield a wealth of services and groups designed for a Christian dating senior. There are resources out there; all the senior has to do is look.

Despite finding themselves without a companion in their golden years, the opportunity for love is not over for single seniors. Those of the Christian persuasion can take advantage of their faith and the community their faith has given them to, again, experience the romantic side of God?s love.

As the Baby Boomers age and become ?senior citizens?, they realize that they may retire some day. Many boomers decide that their current house is too large or cumbersome to keep. They don?t need any nursing care, but they do want something that suits their new (or hoped for) lifestyle. An independent living seniors? community may be an ideal solution.

An independent living seniors? community probably will not fit the image of having old, apparently helpless people sitting in wheel chairs in front of a dingy building. There will be some places that fit that description, but an independent living seniors? community is just as likely to be a bustling place with a tennis court or golf course nearby, as well as a variety of cultural and other activities within each commuting distance. Some of them may be in large, urban areas; others can be located in the suburbs. The owners of a modern independent living seniors? community will realize that today?s seniors are mobile. They can come and go as they please and will not hesitate to leave if a place does not satisfy them.

Each independent living seniors? community has a specific approach to senior living. Some of the communities were created simply to offer housing that was built for seniors. Some of the communities offer a range of services that might include some nursing care on an as needed basis. Some communities will offer a complete range of services from an area for strictly independent living to a nursing home for those seniors who need continuous nursing care. There are many communities scattered around the entire United States so it might be possible to find an independent living seniors? community in most any area in which an individual might want to live. Just as there are a variety of places to live, there are a variety of prices and a large variety of terms and conditions: Does one want a place only a part of the year? Does one want to pay monthly or annually?

Finding a future home is not as difficult as it has been in the past. Many baby boomers are familiar with computers. If they aren?t, they probably have a child or grandchild who is familiar with a computer. Computer search engines have made the search for an appropriate independent living seniors? community relatively easy. One can easily search for facilities miles away from an individual?s current residence. As more seniors begin to look for specific kinds of living situations, more will become available. Even if retirement isn?t in the immediate future, an individual might want to start exploring the variety of options available for an independent living seniors? community.
